KATHMANDU,
FEB 22 - The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will host a one-day event
on Nepal’s energy sector on March 5 in the Capital.
According to Raghuveer
Sharma, chief investment officer at the IFC, the event titled ‘The Way Forward’
will shed light on specific areas and issues regarding the energy sector.
According
to the IFC, the event holds a greater significance at a point of time when
Nepal has signed two crucial pacts, the Power Trade Agreement (PTA) with India
and the Project Development Agreement (PDA) of 900 MW Upper Karnali and the
Arun III Hydropower Project.
“Nepal
has achieved a lot in the last one year. But again, there are a lot of things
that need to be done. This programme will discuss about the way forward,”
Sharma told the Post, adding that they wanted discussions on specific ideas and
get them addressed. “For example, we will be having a legal session where
lawyers from different areas will be brought in together to understand several
legal issues,” he said. “We will also have project financers on board.”
Stakeholders
from different areas related to the energy sector will be among the
participants in the event aimed at sharing knowledge of the people from
diversified areas, Sharma informed. According to the IFC, energy ministers from
Bangladesh and Nepal are likely to participate in the daylong event.
