KATHMANDU, Feb 23: The government has started unbundling of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) deeming that development of energy sector suffered while generation, transmission and distribution/sale of electricity were handled through a single body.

IndusLaw, Shearman & Sterling and Neupane Law Associates advised the Dutch development financing institution, FMO and a consortium of lenders on the $142.5m financing of the proposed 82 MW Nepalese Lower Solu hydropower project.

IFC to hold energy event on March 5

Nepal IPB approves development of hydropower projects


The Nepal Industrial Promotion Board (IPB) has approved the development of hydropower projects in the county.

Overwhelming response by the residents of Darchula and Baitadi districts.


Api Power Company Limited floated 10 percent of its issued capital to the local residents of Darchula and Baitadi districts, a mandatory requirement by Government of Nepal. These two districts are located in far western region of Nepal. Api Power Company Limited offered one million shares at Rs 100 each.

Financial closure of Iwa Khola hydropower project 9.9 MW on the way

A consortium of banks led by Bank of Kathmandu (BoK) is going to do the financial closure of 9.9 MW Iwakhola developed by Rairang Hydropower Development Company Limited very soon. Rairang Hydropower Development Company Limited is a subsidiary company of Ridi hydropower development company limited promoted by Mr. Guru Prasad Neupane, a renowned person in the field of Nepalese hydropower.

Nepal Electricity Authority fixes power purchase tariff for up to 100 MW hydels


KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority, the sole buyer of power here, will soon start buying energy generated by hydel projects with installed capacity of up to 100 megawatts at flat rates of Rs 8.40 per unit during dry season and Rs 4.80 per unit during wet season.

NPC to ask for Nepal Army involvement in hydro dev


National Planning Commission (NPC) has decided to ask the government to involve Nepal Army (NA) personnel in the development of hydropower projects of 10-20MW capacities so that the army builds the capacity to rescue hydel plants during natural disasters.

Chinese presence in Nepal

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent Nepal visit has sent alarm bells ringing in the corridors of power in New Delhi. While in Kathmandu, Yi announced a five-fold increase in official Chinese aid to Nepal, from US $24 million today to US $128 million by 2015-16.

New Foreign Investment Policy.


The Government of Nepal (GoN) is preparing to provide housing facility for investors investing more than US 1 million for the tenor of project operation. Such facility will be borne by Government of Nepal. To encourage foreign investment in the country, Department of Industry (DOI) has decided to add such provision in the foreign investment policy.
